@Compassionate May you help me with this problem? @Whitemonsterbunny17 @phi @campbell_st
z o z means z "composed" with z I would test each choice. for choice A, start with z = x/4 now replace x with (x/4) in z = x/4 can you do that ?
yes
@phi so I'm replacing with 1/16?
this one is confusing with x and z being re-used. but what we do is start with z= x/4 then in the "second z" z= x/4, we replace x with x/4 to get \[ z= \frac{ \frac{x}{4}}{4} \] which looks peculiar. But multiply top and bottom by ¼ \[ z= \frac{ \frac{x}{4}\cdot \frac{1}{4}}{4\cdot \frac{1}{4}} = \frac{\frac{x}{16}}{1}= \frac{x}{16}\]
I should write that as z o z = x/16 so choice A "worked" and must be the answer.
I thought it was D. 16/x ? "No, it's not because we were using option A..., correct?"
if you start with z= 16/x and figure out what z o z is you won't get z o z = x/16 so the answer is not D
