If JI is a midsegment of FGH, find HG. All measurements in the diagram are in inches. A. 60 inches B. 62 inches C. 63 inches D. 65 inches
Know what midsegment means?
Yes, the middle line that bisects it, right? JI
Well, depends on what you mean by it. Hehe. http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GP10/MidLineL.htm Basically, from one midpoint to another. So, what does that tell you about other parts of the triangle?
They're equal?
Which parts are equal?
The side angles
Well, it does say some things about angles. But more importanly, the midpoint part says something about the sides and how they are split up. |dw:1403743002579:dw| The sides with | are equal to each other. The sides with || are equal to each other. On your triangle, what does that mean for the HJF stuff?
They're both equal to each other
Which gives me 5 :o
As in HJ = JF. OK. So... ah, lets see. I did not do the math.
Yah. x=5.
So, how do I use that for HG?
Plug it in.
60!
=)
Thanks so much!
np. I hope you get these a little better. Use what you know to find more. Eventially the more leads to the answer.
I just can't remember formulas most of the time, and I can't seem to find the right ones online..
Anyway, thank you for the help! :D
Well, it is about terms. Midsegment in this case. Once you know the full meaning of the term, it is easier. That regentsprep site has great explanations... but bad navigation. However, if you google: site:www.regentsprep.org midsegment Then you can find their definition pretty easy.
I'll give it a try, thanks.
Kk. have fun!
You too. :D
