What is the connotation of the word brutal in this context? “Rising sea levels, melting sea ice, and warmer air that holds more moisture are a recipe for brutal sea storms that have already washed away chunks of shoreline.” a. continuous c. harsh b. dangerous d. none of these

B. Dangerous? @Whitemonsterbunny17

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Well, brutal means violent.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Both harsh and dangerous make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There isn't an option for both though

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yes, I see that. To help clear it up, replace the word "brutal" with "harsh", then replace it with "dangerous". Which one makes more sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dangerous

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay, look closer at the end of the sentence: "washed away chunks of shoreline." In order for something to wash away chunks of shoreline, it'd have to be pretty harsh, right?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Not just dangerous.
