What is the basis for classification of fungi into 4 diffrnt divisions???
@hritwik13 ARG! What are the divisions you learned?
@hritwik13 I'm guessing Zygomycota, Ascomycota, Basidomycota, and Deuteromycota?
@hritwik13 Well, I go ahead and answer for others, though these classification systems are no longer used (some names are the same though), the Zygomycota and Deuteromycota no longer exist. Zygos, mostly reprodce asexually, have thin cell walls and lack septae between cells. Deuteros are fungi that have never been observed to reproduce sexually, but that does not mean they cannot. Ascos and Basidios are Dikarya. This means they can have two nuclei per cell. Ascos produce spores in sacks (that is what asco means). Basidios produce spores from basidia and have balistospory, meaning the spores are forcibly expelled from the fruiting body (mushroom).
