This is what I did to reduce (because in a sense, when you are reducing one by another, you are dividing):

\[\frac{ -8+b ^{2} }{ 5+b ^{2} }-->\frac{ b ^{2}-8 }{ b ^{2}+5 }\]just for ease of dividing.
