State the possible rational zeros for each function. You do NOT need to test to find the actual zeros. f(x)=5x^3 −11x^2 +7x−1 So I haven't done this before, any help?
the rational root theorem says find the factors of the constant -1 and call then p then find the factors of the coefficient of the leading term 5... call them q then the rational roots are p/q so you have 4 to identify hope it helps
So +-1 and +- 5
well 1 and -1 is correct... so remember its p/q so its 1/q -1/q judt identify q
so 1/5 and -1/5 I'm thinking
that's it... now you have the 4
Thanks so much!
Do you mind if i ask another question?
f(x)=x^3 −6x^2 −11x+10 would I use the x for p or the 6
well the constant is 10... find the factors of 10.. call it p and the coefficient of the leading term is 1 .. find the factors so that's q so its again p/q
so i got -1 and +1
but not the other 2
ok... factors of 10 \[\pm1, \pm2, \pm5, \pm10\] factors of 1 \[\pm 1\] so then its \[\pm1, \pm2... \] the other 2 should be obvious
oh i feel stupid sorry
