List the number of protons electrons and valence electrons in sulfur and please explain how to do it
Hello @Shaekitchen ! do u know the atomic number of Sulfur ?
@Abhisar 16
Great ! Now lets see how to find all the things.
Atomic Number of an atom is equal to the number of protons, so the number of protons in a sulfur atom will be equal to its atomic number i.e 16
In a neutral atom, number of electrons is equal to the number of electrons. So number of electrons in a sulfur atom will be equal to 16
Getting it ?
@Shaekitchen
:)
yes thank you and the number of protons is = to the number of electrons right? @Abhisar

ryt !
Now the electronic configuration of sulfur is equal to 1s\(^2\)2s\(^2\)2p\(^6\)3s\(^2\)3p\(^4\)
i have already posted that @Abhisar
Here the valence shell is 3, we can see that number of electrons in this shell is 2+4 = 6
okay but it didn't ask me for the electron config
For finding the valence electron u'll have to write the config
Or u can simply remember the fact that elements in the same period have similar valence electrons. So sulfur will have the same valence electrons as oxygen will have i.e 6
