Solve five-twelfths m plus two-thirds equals negative three-fourths for m.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5/12m + 2/3 = -3/4m there are a couple of ways to do this....either work it out with the fractions in it, or get rid of the fractions by multiplying the equation by the common denominator. I suggest the second way, but either way should get you to the same correct answer. 5/12m + 2/3 = -3/4m -- multiply by common denominator, which is 12. giving us : 5m + 8 = - 9m -- subtract 5m from both sides 8 = -9m - 5m 8 = - 14m -8/14 = m -- reduce - 4/7 = m OR 5/12m + 2/3 = -3/4m -- subtract 5/12m from both sides 2/3 = -3/4m - 5/12m 2/3 = -9/12m - 5/12m 2/3 = - 14/12m (2/3) / (-14/12) = m 2/3 * - 12/14 = m - 24/42 = m -- reduce - 4/7 = m either way, you will arrive at the same answer any questions ?
