OpenStudy (larseighner):

1 it is the sum of 500 pairs of the form 1 + 1000 2 + 999 3 + 998 ... So 500(1001) and the units must be 1.

thanks

geerky42 (geerky42):

why 1? isn't it 0? \[\sum_{i=1}^{1000}i = \dfrac{1000(1001)}{2} = 500(1001) = 50050\boxed{0}\]
