Find f(-4) when f(x)=x^2-4x-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you see f(x) the value of x is what you plug into the equation. Thus F(4) means that in the equation x^2 -4x-3 x=4

geerky42 (geerky42):

You just replace x to -4, like this: \[f(\color{red}x) = \color{red}x^2-4\color{red}x-3 \\ f(\color{red}{-4}) = (\color{red}{-4})^2 - 4(\color{red}{-4})-3\]
