What exponential function is the best fit for the data in the table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x f(x) 1 -4 3 -1 4 3

OpenStudy (igreen):

Choices? @kelseymanghamx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep forgetting those, dang.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = 4(3)x - 1 + 4 f(x) = 4(3)x - 1 - 4 f(x) = one fourth(3)x - 1 + 4 f(x) = one fourth(3)x - 1 - 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Someone help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you could plug in x=1 and check which one is -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im lost.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No idea. Im doing schooling online and havent learned that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait nevermind i was wrong i looked at it wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These are 3^x power correct ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay for the first one we are given the value when x=1 y=-4, if we plug x into the first equation 4(3)^1-1+4 does this equal -4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it is not that one. Now for the next one 4(3)^1-1-4 how about this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. 7

OpenStudy (igreen):

Is \(x\) an exponent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah but now i am confused @iGreen if you plug x in it seems none of them fit

OpenStudy (igreen):

I am too..I graphed them and none of them cross the points..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They don't even seem close

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = 4(3)^x - 1 + 4 f(x) = 4(3)^x - 1 - 4 f(x) = one fourth(3)^x - 1 + 4 f(x) = one fourth(3)^x - 1 - 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait is it 3^(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (igreen):

Ohhhhhh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well that is the problem lets try this again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (igreen):

Still doesn't seem to work..

OpenStudy (igreen):

Closest one is D..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay It only asks for best fit

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay, I graphed it here.. https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesnt have to be graphed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4(3)^(1-1)+4=8 NOT THAT ONE 4(3)^(1-1)-4=0 not again 1/4(3)^(1-1)+4=5/4 1/4(3)^(1-1)-4=-3.75 d is the only one close

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you guys for you help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would go with d, np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its greatly appreciated. Math isn't my strong suit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the graph below, calculate the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 2 to x = 6.
