what is the slope of a line defiened by the equation 3x+y=-4

OpenStudy (eric_d):

use y=mX+b

OpenStudy (eric_d):

m=slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an easy way to do this is to solve for y, if you subtract 3x from both sides you get y=-3x-4 where the slope is the number infront of the x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be the same for 3x - y = 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but after subtracting 3x you need to divide by -1 too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide what by 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok since when you subtract 3x you get -y=-3x since you have -y it is not alone yet, you divide both -y and -3x by -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks
