What is the equation of the line that is perpendicular to y = 2x – 4 and has a y-intercept of –2?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

y = 2x - 4 slope here is 2 a perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. The negative reciprocal of 2 or 2/1 is - 1/2 (see how I flipped the slope and changed the sign) so we need an equation where the slope(m) is -1/2 and the y intercept (b) = -2. that would be : y = -1/2x - 2 because the slope is in the m position and the y intercept is in the b position
