3.Why do parents focus on the negative aspect of teens?
Because parents are scared about raising up their kids. Everything is on the line. When teens refuse to understand the magnitude of the job of parenting and the infinite possibilities of their life choices parents feel afraid that their kids will never understand all this. Pretty scary stuff, eh?
it is human nature to focus on the bad, on what you need to fix.
they just want to see you do your best
If I could, I'd give medals to all of these answers, because they're good. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs ever out there. Adults have the experience in knowing what it's like to be a teen and know all of the bad choices that could be made -- they were there, too. Like what courtkneethemoose and rickyt say, they just want their kids to do their best -- but at the same time as shaniehh points out, are scared of making mistakes. What if they push too hard? What if they don't do enough? What could they do differently to help their kids make the right decisions and give them the best options in life? They only get one shot at doing the right thing with their kids so it's definitely a mix of fear, worry, and hope in trying to do what they think is best and worry about the bad stuff...at least with those parents that actually DO care about their kids.
