x^3 + 3x^2 – 10x – 24 how do you factor this an you show me how
do you know the rational roots theorem?
no
The key is to find your first factor, by trying like 1 or -1 or somethig simple like that and then facoring what is left behind.
anxn + an–1xn–1 + ··· + a2x2 + a1x + a0 = 0
easy
let me work on it by finding the first root, then i will show you how to do it and why/how it works so well, ok?
@ArmyBoy97 I do not think that is easy at all.
ok thnx :3 i'm new on here you guys are so nice
lol for me it is i am in college math classes and im only 16
rational roots is more the way to go with early math students...trust me I teach them for a job. HS math and alll...
cool
my math professor lives by me so i can always ask him for help lol
rational roots theorem requires that you find the first root by picking a number that goes into both the last coefficient, -24, and the first, 1. I started with a 1 and did synthetic division, but 1 and -1 didn't work so I tried 2 and -2. -2 worked. Are you familiar with synthetic division?
yes i am
when you do synthetic division, you are looking for a result that will a. give you a 0 remainder, and b. give you a polynomial that is one degreee less than what you started with. SO glad you know S.D.
leet's do it with -2, which is equivalent to (x+2).
