OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your friend hands you a graph of the engine power statistics of a race car. He says, “I know this graph is f(x) = –3(x + 4)6 – 8 but I can’t remember how it is related to the graph of x4.” Explain to your friend how the graph f(x) is a translation of the graph x4

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

umm let me see:)

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

1 quick question what grade level are you in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im taking algebra 2

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

algebra b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with the problem?

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

so your taking same class as me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me or not?

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

i'll try

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

if not promise not to be mad.:)

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

is that the whole question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hero help please

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

:(

hero (hero):

I think there are some symbols missing from your equations. Try writing them out using the draw feature.

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

thats why i asked for full question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, im sorry thats the whole question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hero

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

is it possible for you to take a picc of the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no sorry

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

umm are you on a online school?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

\(\ f(x) = –3(x + 4)^6 – 8 \) ?

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

cool i am on 1.. 2 so uhh is it connections accademy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really need help :( ,not questions about my schooling

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

true true true

OpenStudy (aum):

Start with the graph \(\Large f(x) = x^4\) and arrive at \(\Large \ f(x) = –3(x + 4)^6 – 8\)

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

@aum will help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i do that @aum ?

OpenStudy (aum):

I think one of your exponents may be incorrect. It is either x^4 and -3(x+4)^4 - 8 (not (x+4)^6) or x^6 (not x^4) and -3(x+4)^6 - 8 Which is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its x^4 and -3(x+4)^6-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just have to explain how they are related

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

:( sorry

OpenStudy (aum):

"Explain to your friend how the graph f(x) is a translation of the graph x^4" If f(x) has 6 as an exponent then you cannot get that by translation of x^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would i respond to the question? @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

Can you post a screenshot of the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no :/ im using a desktop

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

What...

OpenStudy (aum):

If f(x) = –3(x + 4)^6 – 8 then it CANNOT be obtained by translation of x^4 If f(x) = –3(x + 4)^4 – 8 then it CAN be obtained by translation of x^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i posted the whole question word for word so is it a typo?

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

she is on an online school

hero (hero):

Could be either a typo or a trick question.

hero (hero):

What @aum said is correct.

OpenStudy (here_to_help15):

thats y she cant take a pic:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aum @hero how would i answer it then? & how do i explain a translation?

hero (hero):

You may not be able to take a pic, but you can use a "snipping tool" to post a .png file.

OpenStudy (aum):

f(x) = –3(x + 4)^6 – 8 is NOT a translation of the graph x^4 (assuming no typo in the question).
