What are the answers, just need feedback on my answer I picked. The lengths of the sides of a triangle could be 3, 8, 4. True False Question 3 The lengths of the sides of a triangle could be 1, 1, 1. True False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the first one I put true and Question three would be false,

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

That would be correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for both?

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

No the second one is wrong

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

Be cause you have 3 types of triangles One were no sides are the same Two is there are two sides are the same And three is one were all the sides are the same

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@claritamontano Have you tried to sketch the first triangle, and what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you Mean?? All I did was add 8 and 3 and say that it was greater then four and said it is a triangle.

OpenStudy (aum):

The sum of two sides of a triangle must ALWAYS be greater then the third side. If this rule is violated it cannot be a triangle. If not, it can be a triangle.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Very well, you know about the triangle inequality! Is 3+4>8?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You have to run the same test for all three sides!, In fact, you only have to check that the sum of the two smaller sides is greater than the greatest side. If this works, then the triangle exists. If not, well, it doesn't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I would have to add 4 and 3 together and since the add up to 7 that means its not a triangle

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I should have said the triangle inequality must be satisfied for all three sides, even though you could choose only one test to be done.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and on question 3; if all the sides are equal, what type of triangle do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an equilateral

OpenStudy (mathmate):

quoting from @ARMYRANGERS "Be cause you have 3 types of triangles One were no sides are the same Two is there are two sides are the same And three is one were all the sides are the same "

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first would be false and the second would be true

OpenStudy (aum):

Pick any positive real number x and you can always construct an equilateral triangle, where each side has a length of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks!!
