What was the significance of the Battle of Stalingrad?

OpenStudy (wearehiding):

It was important because it turned the tide. Up until then the Nazis had had things more or less their own way - after Stalingrad, nothing went well for them. Stalingrad was indeed one of the bloodiest battles in history. It was symbolic for both Hitler - he wanted to capture Stalin's city, and for Stalin - he had fought their in the Civil War when the city was called Tsartsyn.
