Ok so If we look at the first part we see that when the price goes up $0.50 then the gallons goes down by 300. So next we need to see how many gallons it changes by for every cent the price changes, for that we need to divide 300 by 50 and we get six gallons for every cent. So to find how many gallons for $2.65 we find the difference between $2.40 and $2.65,  multiply it by six and add it to 1000 and we get the first answer. For the second answer we need to find the difference between 1000 and 800 then divide it by six, then round it to the nearest cent then add it to $2.90 because thats the gallons we started from we get the second answer.
