What's the difference between a citation and a reference within an essay?
Do you have an idea, darling?
I'll show you an example: "When artists create CGI sculptures the most important thing to consider is how light would hit this object, which would create shadows and brighten certain surfaces in specific ways. Whenever we see CGI within cinema and it looks bad or obviously generated by computers, it is because the software that creates it hasn’t cast light on it in the correct way, thus ruining the image we see." Now I'm writing an essay on how CGI is altering audience immersion, but my tutor said my essay lacked referencing as a whole. The problem I face is how to reference the information I have for this extract. I took the information from Doug Walker, star of the Nostalgia Critic series on youtube. I get the idea of referencing statistics or a book, but what about a youtube video? Sorry if it seems like I'm waffling!
“a citation occurs when you use a specific source in your work and then follow up with the proper bibliographic information; plagiarism issues arise when you use a specific source, but fail to indicate what you have borrowed, and/or fail to provide proper bibliographic information a reference is the bibliographic information that guides readers to your source.”
