y^2-2y=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FIrst subtract 4 from both ssides so you can factor it. \(y^2-2y-4\) do you know how to factor this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thanks

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the problem is it won't factor... easiest option is to complete the square in y then solve or use the general quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to use the quadratic formula to do so, like @campbell_st said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\large x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you could also complete the square
