a number, multiply it by 4, subtract 6 and then divide it by 5. If the answer is 10, what was the original number? @mkerr017 @aum @zepdrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16.5 i think

zepdrix (zepdrix):

It's funny how it says "think of a number", because that doesn't really help solve the problem lol

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So I read the steps like this: `multiply by 4` `subtract 6` `divide by 6` So I would do the inverse of all these steps to 10, and in the reverse order, start with 10: `multiply by 6` `add 6` `divide by 4`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just have to work backwards, start with ten and do the opposite of whatever it says

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks! @zepdrix @mkerr017

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14? @zepdrix @mkerr017

zepdrix (zepdrix):

14? Hmmmm that doesn't seem right >.< Starting with 10 `multiply by 6` 60 `add 6` 66 `divide by 4` 16.5

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

This seems like a weird way to collect data on the way people guess numbers

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

change "think of a number" to "a number"

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I did this:\[\frac{ 4x-6 }{5 }=10\]

OpenStudy (imstuck):

x is 14.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this sounds like you are asking us to think of a number do a bunch of stuff to it, and if we get 10 as an answer we are to report to you. For god knows what....

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, before i didnt know how to work it out! @zzr0ck3r
