Tips on driving for the first time? @mathstudent55 @zepdrix @thomaster @Abhisar @tkhunny @dan815

zepdrix (zepdrix):

You been practicing and stuff? c:

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I mean, are you preparing for a driving test? Or you're preparing to get behind the wheel for the first time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got behind the wheel in a empty parking lot. This is for future references; but I want to know as much about this.

TEACH ME HOW TO DRIVE.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

lol c:

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Parking lot or something like that is a great idea. There are a few different things that you need to be aware of while driving. Eventually they will become second nature. But until you learn them, it'll feel a little awkward. Like: You need to be aware of which pedal your foot is on, positioning yourself in a lane (again this will become very natural later on), and checking your mirrors when lane changing. I guess maybe that's a little ways down the road for you but it's worth thinking about. Drive around that parking lot some more. Try to get comfortable with how a car feels. I feel like I'm a pretty decent driver... It really just takes a bit of practice to get to a point where you're not nervous or uncomfortable.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Anything you're really worried about? :d

Only confidence. <3

How about those driver's tests?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I think it's a lot like school teachers, sometimes you a stickler and sometimes you end up with an easier guy. I can tell you from my experience: My mom was sitting in the back seat chit chatting with the guy the whole time. He barely even payed attention to my driving lol.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I do remember practicing in the car with an instructor at one point and almost running a red light. He had to hit the brakes on his side (one of those special training cars where both sides have the breaks). So don't let mistakes take away your confidence. They can happen to anyone :d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't you have to take written tests as well?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

There are a lot of weird little rules on the test. They've probably changed a bit since I took it a long time ago. Test was kinda difficult. Try to pay attention to the stuff in class or whatever.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

You learn way way more than you need taking those tests. They teach you a lot of rules and procedures. When you actually get behind the wheel of car you just need to know a few things: Stop sign means stop. Yield sign means that someone else has the right away, so yield to them. If a cop has his light on flying down the road, you pull over to get out of his way. They'll teach you about parallel parking and all that weird stuff... how far you can park from a fire hydrant.. i don't even know... I don't think I've ever parallel parked.... maybe once :d
