For separable partial differential equations, how do you know when to use the three different cases (the term multiplied by X or Y is zero, positive, or negative)? I looked at my solution guide and some problems require no cases, some require only the one case where the middle term multiplied by X or Y is zero, and the rest require all three cases.

hey can u tell me one thing? Is star stays at the moon or moon stays at the star?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tell me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Moon is star.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are genius :)

I'm glad I could answer your question in my question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad me too :)

Any ideas, Kainui? :)

I don't really understand what you're asking. Do you have an example problem maybe? D:

The formatting on this site is kind of wonky. I took a screenshot of a more detailed version of my question in better formatting: http://i.imgur.com/1qvnVec.png

Mmm darn I can't remember PDE's very well :c

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Was a really fun class though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty tedious though.

Just scratching the surface of PDE's. We've done ODE's the whole semester. I'm guessing PDE's are much more difficult.
