Find the value of x. A. 9 B. 18 C. 45 D. 90

OpenStudy (mrnood):

You have 2 simultaneous equations. Angles formed on a straight line always add up to 180 deg SO - taking the 2 angles in the top right (2y+x)+(2y-x) = 180 deg You can therefore solve what y is Then make an equation for the 2 angles in the top left (sum = 180) You know y - so solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so solving for y would be (2y +x) + (4x) =180?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

That is the equation for the tpo left pair - but you must first solve for y using the top right pair.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

(2y+x)+(2y-x) = 180 deg simplify this equation - to solve for y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 45 for y? did i get it right?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

yes Now put that into YOUR equation for the top left pair - and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 30?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Not correct I think (2y +x) + (4x) =180 y=45 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (2(45)+x) + (4x) = 180 (90+x) +(4x) =180 90+3x=180 3x= 90 30 thats how i got it?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

OK - as I said - that is not correct Check your sum

OpenStudy (mrnood):

The first line of your last post is OK You have made a mistake further down.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so from (90+x) + (4x)=180 where should i go?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

This is maths It is a simple equation - you have made a simple mistake. Just check your work

OpenStudy (mrnood):

|dw:1406125650151:dw| You can see that this does not sum to 180
