can anyone help me? X^3 - 7 divided by x-3 .

OpenStudy (aum):

Try synthetic division. If you are not familiar with it, try long division.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure how to divide with exponents

OpenStudy (aum):

Are you familiar with synthetic division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

OpenStudy (aum):

It is hard to explain here by writing. I will see if I can find a YouTube video.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for some reason its not working...

OpenStudy (aum):

Are there any YouTube that works for you? If anything else works this should work too. If nothing else works then you may have a computer problem at your end. But this is a good video to watch.

OpenStudy (aum):

After you learn synthetic division, just one point before you attempt this problem. Notice in x^3 - 7, there are missing terms. Normally, a polynomial will have decreasing exponents such as: x^3, x^2, x, and a constant. Here it goes directly from x^3 to -7. So you need to think of x^3 - 7 as x^3 + 0x^2 + 0x - 7 and use the coefficients 1 0 0 -7 when you do the synthetic division.
