I literally have no clue how to do this: (Medal will be rewarded) Line AD is tangent to Circle R Segment RB = 4 Segment AD = 6 Using the Pythagorean Theorem, calculate Segment BD.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whenever it says tangent I get thrown off..is there a particular formula to use with problems with tangent mentioned?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formula is opposite over adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is it BD over AD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AD over BD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 6/BD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then I use it in the Pythagorean theorem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AD=6 Given

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm .. yeah use it in Pythagorean Theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6/BD^2+4^2...I just confused myself :/
