\(\sf \large\color{red}{FAQs~and~Myth~busters~about~COC}\) I'll be posting some common questions which come into my mind and which different users ask me. I urge the moderators to please answer them so that it can be used as reference. Tnx for the crystal clear xplanations. @thomaster @e.mccormick @amistre64 @blues @tkhunny @shrutipande9

#1 Recently i suggested on user not to give out direct answers in biology section. He replied that Moderators have approved giving direct answers in all the sections other than mathematics. Is it true ? http://prntscr.com/468s2l

OpenStudy (abhisar):

#2 What is community Ban ? Will i get banned if i have no fault and someone with his/her group of friends reports me ?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

for the first question...i am sure no mod has said this. i can understand that there are some questions which have a simple 1 word ans..but what u can do is post a link describing more about that answer.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

community ban is...when many people report a person during the same time span that person gets banned automatically. yes this happens sometimes. but we do check d community bans and if the user is not at fault we reinstate that user.

What has been seen as somewhat acceptable are complete explanations. While these are still direct answers, they at least give someone a chance to learn. These are still discouraged. In fact, people that only do complete answers have also been suspended. For a longer discussion of the rules, see this: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5326a704e4b06a39f86211dc

OpenStudy (amistre64):

any posting that provides an answer and that does not include the askers participation is considered a direct answer. The askers heartfelt participation is required for learning to have a chance to occur. Responses such as id, and hurry its timed ... are not considered to be heartfelt participation. while it is difficult to answer questions that are spose to be based on memory, like history or biology etc, those questions are in the most need of the askers participation to draw upon their own knowledge base to improve upon it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

** responses such as idk ...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

There are ways to not answer that are very easy to do. One of my common tactics is to ask what they can eliminate as a possible answer. Help them work towards it. Another is to link a larger reference where if they take the time to read a couple pages the answer is hidden in there.

#3 What does the day studied in the profile page shows ? No of days since i joined OS or time equivalent in days for which i have been online on OS ? http://prntscr.com/46iafr

OpenStudy (abhisar):

#4 What is the actual purpose of `Feedback Section` ? What kind of posts are allowed or should be posted there ?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

#3 • Those are the amount of days you've logged into OpenStudy. If you login only once and never login again, you'll have only 1 day studied. #4 • The purpose is for feedback (user complaints, compliments and general encouragement/discouragement about the site.) It has also been given way to more miscellaneous post like ,"Happy Birthday" posts, which were approved by the Administration. Also, like your thread, it can be used as a general consensus for FAQ's and questions regarding the system, rules and regulations.

#5 How to become an `Ambassador` Ambassadors \(\Large\bf\color{#872af0}{Ⓐ}\) are special people who represent the OpenStudy nation in lots of positive ways! You are someone who loves OpenStudy. You are always inviting your friends to join OpenStudy because you think this is a great site. You post about us on Facebook and tweet about us as well. You are always helpful and friendly. You welcome and guide newcomers through the site - helping them learn how to navigate as well as how to make friends. You enjoy helping others by explaining and teaching – not just by giving answers. You always find ways to be encouraging to OpenStudiers – mentoring, as well as helping them with their work. You are someone who embodies the Code of Conduct: “Be Nice, Give Help, not just answers, and Thank others for their help.” Being an Ambassador is fun! You get to be an official representative of OpenStudy, helping make the community the best it can be. You’ll invite friends and spread the word about how great it is to be a part of the OpenStudy community. You’ll get an opportunity to show your best work every month and share your ideas about the site. You’ll encourage newcomers and current users in the community values that make the site so special. You’ll make new friends from all over the world! How We’ll Recognize You: • Anyone chosen as Ambassador of the Month will be recognized by the community, and will receive a gift, such as an ITunes card. • Every six months, those with the best records of Ambassadorship will be recognized on the site, as well as with personal letters of recommendation for college or jobs. The A tells the world, you are Helpful, Nice, and a true OpenStudy citizen. Want to apply? Go to the link for the online application and answer all the questions completely. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG9Ub1liMmJrRm9mNXdSV0hWbDZIZHc6MQ For your application to be complete you’ll also need: • A screenshot of one of your “Best Moments” on OpenStudy – a time when you were warm, welcoming, and helped someone. • A screenshot of a time when you posted something about OpenStudy on a social media site (such as Facebook or Twitter). • Proof that you have successfully invited at least 10 friends to join OpenStudy. Please list their emails and usernames.

#6 How to become a `Moderator` ? Moderators are either members of the OpenStudy team or community members who the team feels have the qualities of a good moderator based on how they interact with other community members. It's really not that glamorous, but if you really want to be a moderator the only way to get there is to become an active, helpful member of OpenStudy and hope you get lucky when they decide to add more moderators. :)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

An additional clarification on #3, it is not a whole day of login. If you log in and right out, it is a day. Log back in later the same day, or several times in one day, it is still just one day. #4 also, a lot of off-topic gets posted in Feedback. It is actually not for this. It is not a dumping ground for anything and everything. Addition to #6: We also decide based on who we know the most about. So while being an Ambassador does not assure becoming a moderator, it does get you noticed more. This is a double edged sword. If you tend to mess around at times and bend the rules a lot as an ambassador, you are less likely to be a moderator. However, if you follow the rules wonderfully and perform the duties of an ambassador properly, you are more likely.

#1 was SolomonZelman giving the direct answer. I know it.

^ @jigglypuff314 approves of only 99SS posts. They don't think that making 90SS or 75SS post is really necessary becuase it isn't an achievement. And once you touch 99SS, you don't think that is special anymore...

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I talked to Preetha and she approves misc posts like, Happy Birthday, Good bye, 99ss
