5x^2=-30x-65

OpenStudy (crashonce):

do this the same as the last question move everything to LHS: 5x^2 -30x +65

OpenStudy (crashonce):

sorry 5x^2 +30x +65 = 0

OpenStudy (crashonce):

then use the formula from the last question

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

you could simplify it a bit by dividing everything by 5

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

x^2 + 6x + 13 = 0

OpenStudy (crashonce):

but you still have to put the five at the front @bahrom7893 like this 5(x^2 + 6x +13)=0

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

what's 0*5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0

OpenStudy (crashonce):

but technically that is still incorrect,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0*5=0 is incorrect?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Technically it's correct lol, I'm dividing everything by 5: (5x^2 +30x +65)/5 = 0/5

OpenStudy (crashonce):

you could also divide both sides by (5x^2 + 30x +65) therefore 1=0

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

You're just pulling the 5 out. Once you pull it out you can still divide everything by 5 and get the same thing

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

you can't divide by a variable

OpenStudy (crashonce):

mathematically you can its the same as dividing everything by five

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

that's why that statement doesn't hold. What if 5x^2 + 30x equaled to -65, you'd get 0 in the denominator.

OpenStudy (crashonce):

reading out of the textbook, you have to pull the five out and leav e it there

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

anyway, we're wasting alliekat06's time. Allie, just solve x^2 + 6x + 13 = 0

OpenStudy (crashonce):

yea ok @bahrom7893 your probs right im only a junior high school student anyway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You two are not wasting my time, it's your time that I'm taking away. I really appreciate both of your help. Wish I got this like you two. Ok let me try to solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I think I got it, -6 +-4i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?????

OpenStudy (crashonce):

slow down what two numbers add to 6 and multiply to 13? no whole numbers so use the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just got 3,3, wait but still didn't give me a solution. I worked out the problem wrong. Sorry
