Find the reference angle for the given angle. -404° I got -44 but I don't think that's correct...please explain why it's incorrect if it is

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Do you know what a reference angle is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No ma'am

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

hint : reference angle is always `positive`

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

http://awesomescreenshot.com/0b037vc054 Thank you and what do you call a negative angle

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats 404 degrees, not -404 degrees

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

-404 = -404+360 = -44

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

however referene angle is a different concept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my answer choices have no negatives. I will have to talk to my instructor about this

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

reference angle is never negative, okay ? may be lets draw this angle ` -44 ` first

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats the angle `-44`, right ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it is making an angle of 44 degrees with the x axis so the reference angle will be `44` degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I looked again and its not even neg e.O now I'm confused

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

reference angle is 44 degrees

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you must be having 44 degrees in your option, eh ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do but I meant here http://awesomescreenshot.com/0ef37vcdac I could have sworn it said -44 last time I looked

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes thats how it should look : your original angle is "-44" degrees and the reference angle to that original angle is "44" degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that work the other way around if my original angle is positive?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

By definition of reference angle, it is the angle with the x axis, and it is always positive
