MEDAL!! Hey, guys I'm going to be taking computer science next senior year. I was just curious how fun it is, what you do in it, etc.
If you mean AP Comp Sci in high school, my experience was we started with some beginner language called DrScheme and eventually learned java. We learned: Data types, some sorting/search algorithms, testing programs, if/else/while/for conditional expressions, arrays. strings, basic popular Java classes, input/output and all the other basic stuff you learn in an entry level computer science course.
As to "how fun it is", it depends on who you ask. Given some of the friends I've made that are doing CS I'd like to believe it attracts a certain type of crowd. Some of them enjoy math and problems and saw CS as a place where both worlds meet. If you've ever felt the rush/release of working on a math problem for a long time and then solving it, you'll understand what I mean. There's just something that feels so good about getting it working. Others are motivated by moneys because CS is the next big field with loads of jobs and not a lot of demand. Others are just nerdlords that spent all day behind a computer and figured why not, it can't be THAT hard, right? (I'm one of those guys!) Coming from the third categories perspective, I can tell you that the subject isn't easy. While there certainly are some types of people that are predisposed to the subject (This might be an unpopular opinion but I stand by this belief in other subjects too, like music), everyone is going to have to put work into learning. By that, I mean CS, like math, is a hands on activity. You learn the most from tinkering and working on personal projects. Watching tutorials will only get you so far.
tl;dr yes it's fun, yes it's work, good luck have fun. p.s. it might help if you get ahead of the course material and stay ahead.
