Twice a number increased by seven is equal to five what is the statement

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Can you write your question, in numbers in variables (in other words as a normal equation) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've seen these type of questions, I think it's actually asking you what is the equation written in numerical form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 n + 7 = 5; n = -4.5 2 n = 7 + 5; n = 6 2( n + 7) = 5; n = -4.5 2 n + 7 = 5; n = -1 Twice a number increased by seven is equal to five. Which of the following represents the equation and solution for this statement?

When sentences like these say "a number," that's going to be a variable. Now try to work it out. Let's say this "number" is 3. What is twice of 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct, so in this case, "twice" means that you're multiplying. So "twice" a "number" is...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it thank you!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I will do this nice and quick. Twice a number means that the number is being multiplied by 2. So that's going to be 2n. Then, it's increased by 7, so that's addition. So that's going to be 2n + 7. And then it's equal to 5. That should be pretty self-explanatory. So you're equation is 2n + 7 = 5. You're welcome :)
