x4 -3x + 1, 4x2 - 2x + 8, and x3 - 9
what's the question? you're just giving numbers here
Add the following polynomials, then place the answer in the proper location on the grid. Write your answer in descending powers of x.
forget about the "answer in the proper location on the grid" part
do you know what like terms are ?
i just want the answer
Basically take the numbers with the same amount of x's and add them but pay attention to the signs
Like x^4 cant be added to x^3, but -3x and -2x can be
x^4 + 0x^3 + 0x^2 -3x + 1 0x^4 + 0x^3 + 4x^2 - 2x + 8 0x^4 + 1 x^3 + 0x^2 -0x - 9 ----------------------------add x^4 + x^3 + 4x^2 - 5x
@texaschic101 is right, and then you factor out the x
final answer would be x(x^3+x^2-4x-5) check my work?
like terms : 3x + 2x - x unlike terms : x^2 + 4x you cannot add/subtract unlike terms
what sloth said....with the factoring out the x...that is correct, but your teacher might not want it factored. Make sure before you turn it in
thank you both
sure thing :)
no problem
