Help with Quadratic formula??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think I did this right... use the quadratic formula on 2x^2 -12x + 5 = 0 I got this x=(-b±√b^2-4ac)/2a Now let's plug our equation in and simplify. x=(-12±√144-4*2*5)/4 x=(-12±√144-4*10) x=(-12±√144-40) x=(-12±√104

Can someone show me how to do this correctly?

OpenStudy (shamil98):

a = 2 b = -12 c = 5 \[X = \frac{ -(-12) \pm \sqrt{(-12)^2 - 4(2)(5)} }{ 2(2) } \]

OpenStudy (shamil98):

\[X = \frac{ 12 \pm \sqrt{26 * 4} }{ 4 }\]\[X =\frac{ 12 \pm \sqrt{144 - 40} }{ 4 }\] \[X = \frac{ 12 \pm \sqrt{104} }{ 4 }\] \[x = \frac{ 12 \pm \sqrt {26*4} }{ 4 }\] \[x = \frac{ 12 \pm 2\sqrt{26} }{ 4 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what?...

OpenStudy (shamil98):

thats it..

OpenStudy (shamil98):

thats the solution

OpenStudy (shamil98):

\[x = \frac{ 6 \pm \sqrt{26} }{ 2 }\]well you could simplify it a bit more i guess

Hmmm okay
