Find the value of if tan (alpha/2) is – 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cos ^2 a=(1+tan^2a/2/1-tan^2a/2)^2 sin^2 a=(2tan^a/2/1-tan a/2)^2.find the value of 1/1+cos^2a+sina if tan a/2 is -3

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\Large\color{blue}{ \tan\frac{α}{2} =±\sqrt{\frac{1-\cos(α)}{1+\cos(α)}} =\frac{1-\cos(α)}{\sin(α)}=\frac{\sin(α)}{1+\cos(α)} }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So, you can use that, \(\Large\color{blue}{ \frac{1-\cos(α)}{\sin(α)}=-3 }\) \(\large\color{blue}{ 1-\cos(α)=-3 \sin(α) }\) \(\large\color{blue}{ 1-\cos(α)=-3 +│\sqrt{ 1-\cos^2(α)}│ }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you can just do it, tan(a/2)=-3 tan(x)=-3 solve for x, and sub into x = a/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/1cos^2a+1-cosa/-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/1+cos^2 a+(1-cosa/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3/-2+3cos^2a-cosa

((1+(-3)^2) /(1-(-3)) )^2 (10/4 )^2 =6.25
