how can exponential equations with unequal bases be solved ?? please help

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Your question ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was what i was asked … i dont get it either

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Is it about logarithms ? or just exponents ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exponential and logarithms yah

OpenStudy (midhun.madhu1987):

a^m x b^m = (ab)^m is it this?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay, (usually) you would try to make all the bases equal to base 10 USING, \(\LARGE\color{black}{ \log_AB=\frac{\log_{10}B}{\log_{10}A}}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok im followin you … so thats the formula

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes:)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I don't like these type of questions though, I like specific questions better.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Do you want a little mathematical riddle after we do this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah i know it was a over the phone questions and i wrote it down word for word just couldnt figure it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha amd sure why not

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay, but now you figured.. ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay the riddle is (typing it)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The ball is falling from a certain height (lets say 20 feet) and bounces on 80 percent of the height. For 100 bounces, what is the way to find THE FULL VERTICAL HEIGHT that the BALL FLEW.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(get the riddle ? )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no clue lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Hint: Geometric sequence.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Still confused ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see I really have no clue im so bad at math im trying to pass this class and ill be done finally lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im thinking thow

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\normalsize\color{black}{ 2 S_n-(a_1-a_{100}) }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

There are 100 of different heights, where all of them are a1 a2 a3 ... a99 a100 right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay, and all the heights it goes through, it goes through twice up and down, besides a1 and a100, because a1 is only once (one time down) and a100 is only once (one time up)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

a1 is the begging of the first bounce, and a100 is the end of the last one.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Well, anyway, I don't want to overwhelm you... good luck :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!
