Two students in your class, Wilson and Alexis, are disputing a function. Wilson says that for the function, between x = -1 and x = 1, the average rate of change is 0. Alexis says that for the function, between x = -1 and x = 1, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how Wilson and Alexis can both be correct, using complete sentences.

If you guys could please help me out with this question since I dont understand the wording!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're right. It is tricky wording. Now, the rate of change from either side is zero, but I think that they might be getting at looking at lefthand/righthand behavior? correct me if I'm wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think what they're asking to show how both their wordings mean the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The rate of change would be zero since it is a stationary point, but it is also where it changes direction... I dont know how to word it any differently, but what I'm writing doesnt make much sense even to me

Likewise. What level of mathematics is this even in? seems almost busy work. You could almost restate the same thing, but just angle the statement differently, and appease the question.

I have a question on my account, none of the jokers are answering it. Care to take a look? I've forgotten basic functional notation.

It's Algebra 2.. so no idea? and suree
