I need to find value of y in trapezoid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you need to set up 2 equations the opposite sides are equal and the 2 'left side' angles are also equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the 2 sides are congruent but don't know what to do with 2 variables. Is the one side 12 and alos 30x+11y or is the 30x+11y the angle?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

30x + 11y is the angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+37=12 right

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

2x + 3y = 12

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

and 30x + 11y = 112

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3y=12-2x y=4-2/3x and now sub this into equation or solve for x and sub into equation

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

its easier this way if you multiply the first equation by 15 then subtract you'll eliminate x and find y very eeasily

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so you have 30x + 45y = 180 30x = 11y = 112

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

thats 30x + 11y = 112

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you go from 45y and 180 to 11y and 112

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give me the whole problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is an attachment with diagram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't see the value of multiplying by 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have it

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i multip;ied 3x + 4y = 12 by 15 so to get 30x so we get 30x + 45y = 180 and we also have the other equation 30x + 11y = 112 now subtract these 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, but isn't one the length of a leg and the other degrees of angle
