OpenStudy (oleg3321):

why wont anyone help

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

A system of equations is given below. 2x + 7y = 1 -3x – 4y = 5 Create an equivalent system of equations by replacing the first equation by multiplying the first equation by an integer other than 1, and adding it to the second equation. Use any method to solve the equivalent system of equations (the new first equation with the original second equation). Prove that the solution for the equivalent system is the same as the solution for the original system of equations.

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm @LizzyMcWire

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

plwese help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should do as the problem says and multiply the first equation by some integer, then add that new equation to the second

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

can you please show how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply it by 2 and tell me what you get

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

4x+14y=2 -6x-8y=10

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah lizzy saved me

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

@LizzyMcWire you still there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't multiply the bottom by 2, just the top

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then add the top to the bottom

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

1x+10y=7

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

@LizzyMcWire

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now that will be the new first equation. Solve the system using that as the first equation with the original second equation.

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

can you please show how. cause im getting confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1x+10y=7 -3x-4y=5

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

okay so that is the answer for the first question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, you need to solve it now, find one variable first then use that info to find the other like you normally do

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

so its -2x+6y=12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isolate one variable, then set it equal to that when you redo the problem

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

-2x=12+6y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-3y-6

OpenStudy (oleg3321):

so thats the answer for question 1 ?

OpenStudy (oleg3321):
