Phillip received 75 points on a project for school. He can make changes and receive two-tenths of the missing points back. He can make corrections as many times as he wants. Create the formula for the sum of this geometric series, and explain your steps in solving for the maximum grade Phillip can receive. Identify this as converging or diverging.

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

This is not a geometric series because he isn't getting +1/5 of each previous attempt. The maximum score he can get is 120% of 75, or 75×1.2 which is 90.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is therre a formula?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I understood it incorrectly

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It is that he gets 20% off from his grade (as a penalty)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Saying if he gets a 100, he will get 20% off from that, and the final grade would be 80.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do we know if its out of a 100

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Well, for maximum grade, he couldn't score more than a 100, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So, you have a 20% off penalty, is this so ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused on what to answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he can get 20% of a point back

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

so he gets 20% of 75 back, plus 75.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

In other words 120% of 75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

90?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it converging or diverging? @SolomonZelman

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I thought this question was already passed. I said that I don't think that it is a sequence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh it asks in the question, so i thought it would be one of the two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Brett has determined a function f(x) that shows the exponential growth of the number of shoes Larae owns each year. Explain how the f−1(x) can be found and what f−1(132) means.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand that f^-1x is the inverse of f(x)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

f^(-1)x would be just the same way as any other inverse function, and f^(-1) (132) would be if you plug in 132 into the f(x)^(-1), instead of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would i type to answer the full question..

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You didn't post the Brett's function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean? this question has left me puzzled for two days now..

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

well, I am not given the brett's function. I guess you should close this question and post a new one. Then, tag someone else.
