I need geometry help please! Find lengths x & y.

OpenStudy (juanpablojr):

Welcome to Open study. Post the image of the problem so I can se what I can do.

OpenStudy (mokeira):

Where is the picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm uploading it. sorry i'm new to this site

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i actually need help with both of these. i have no idea where to start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you use proportion to solve for y. So it should look like this: 20/15= y/21. Then to find x, you do the same except you have to use all the numbers so, using what you got for y. You add it with 21, then you add 20 and 15 together. Once you get the two numbers (don't mix them up) you put them over x and 14. It should look like y+21/14= 20+15/ x.

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. :) Glad to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have any idea how to start the second one? i think i'd have to find DB but i don't know how to.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not really sure.....I'll try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i've been stuck on these for awhile :(

I think you use proportions again, so you have to use a geometric mean theorem. So what you have to do is that you add the bottom together which would equal to 5. Then you put it on top of x in a fraction. It would look like 5/x. Then you put x over 2. It should look like x/2. At the end it should look like 5/x= x/2. I'm not sure if this is right though. |dw:1407343525301:dw|
