OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Try plugging in the x values and see if you get the correct y value using each equation.
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
For example, using y=x works for (1,1), but not for (2,8)
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Make sense?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so is it B ?

i just dont get the 2 on top :/ @JoannaBlackwelder
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
No, I don't get B. What do you mean the 2 on top?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
like on b how the 2 is on top i dont know what that means?
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
I think you mean the exponent.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is it c? i just need help so i can get the rest!

yeah how does the exponent work?
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
The exponent means how many time you multiply the base together.
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
For example, 2^2 means 2*2.
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
3^2 means 3*3 or 9.
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Make sense?

yes so whats the answer ? :/ @JoannaBlackwelder
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
You tell me which equation works now that you are understanding exponents.
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
For B, 1^2 = 1, so the first pair of numbers works. How about 2 and 8?
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Does that work for y=x^2?
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
In other words, does 2^2=8?

nope!
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Good! So B is out. Can you try C?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok C is wrong because 2* 3 = 6 so it must be D ?
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
Exponents aren't the same as multiplication. You need to multiply the base number as many times as the exponent says. So, 2^3 = 2*2*2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh so its C ?(:

Right :) Since 3^3 = 3*3*3=27
OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):
and 4^3=4*4*4=64 :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
omfg thanks so much i finally get it !((:

You are very welcome! :)
