ok so umm Why is slope also called the "rate of change"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope is basically the rise over the run of a line. So as you progress upwards/downwards/left/right a unit you get a change. The slope depicts how many units you go up,down, left,or right. Hence the rate of change.

For example, you have y = 4x + 2. The slope is 4/1 or just 4, and the y-intercept of the line is 2. So, you would start at the y-intercept of 2, and go up 4 and right one. Make sense?..
