Is this factored correctly?
-16t^2 + 28t + 8 = 0 Factors of 16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. Factors of 28: 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28. Factor of 8: 1, 2, 4, 8. GCF: 4. 4(-16t^2/4 + 28t/4 + 8/4) = 4(-4t^2 + 7t + 2)
Yes this is correct, but incomplete, because -4t^2 + 7t + 2 = -(4t+1)(t-2)
What method are you using to factor?
I was typing some ___ then erased it, ... I can't really explain it -:(
I am just using the GCF.
And my lesson didn't say anything about the last answer you got. How did you do it?
I am thinking backwards Sort of. Like if you were to expand an expression like (x-4)(x+3) (or something like that) then you get x²-x-12. And the backward thinking is that I am thinking what would the expression be in a form of (x+a)(x+v) (where a and v are numbers)
if your lesson is just about GCF then your answer is correct
however if you have been taught to factor then you must continue to factor
-16t^2 + 28t + 8 = 0 it is best to factor out a -4 -4(4t^2-7t-2)=0
4t^2-7t-2 I like to use the slide and divide method it is also, known by other names slide 4 out multiply it to the last term so 4 times 2 is 8 let's rewrite it t^2-7t-8
look at your last term it is an 8 what are the factors of 8 1,2,4,8 you see the sign in front of 8, it is a minus sign that tells you to subtract your factors
|dw:1407680079919:dw|
best to put it in this format we are looking for the middle term
|dw:1407680148565:dw|
now our sign choices is negative so (+)(-)=- and (-)(+)=- so do we want -1+8 or -8+1 remember what our middle term looks like
our middle term is -7t correct so -1+8=+7 and +1-8=-7 so we want +1 and -8
|dw:1407680286880:dw|this gives us t^2
|dw:1407680320204:dw|gives us 8
