Function Help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let f(x) = 2x - 6. Solve f-1(x) when x = 2. -5 4 -2 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

phi, you can tell I'm confused on these, cant you :p?

OpenStudy (phi):

Yes this is confusing. f-1(x) when x = 2 means \( f^{-1}(2) \) that means find x in f(x) when f(x)=2

OpenStudy (phi):

in other words, solve for x using 2=2x - 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so x would be 4

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. The hard part is explaining how to interpret f-1(2) so that you know how to do the problem. (I have not figured out how to make it clear (yet!) )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks again for your help. I still have a couple of them I need help but I'll open up new thread. Once you dwindle it down, it isn't hard to figure out but I don't get how to simplify like you do.
