OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Hello:)

OpenStudy (uri):

._.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Do you like Chemistry?

OpenStudy (uri):

Like is an understatement.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

What? You just confuesed me:( XD.

OpenStudy (uri):

I ADORE Chemistry.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

:O Ok. Wanna help me?

OpenStudy (uri):

Sure.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Give me a sec. Lemme pull it upxD.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Here it is:)

OpenStudy (uri):

The reaction you cited is H2(g) + Cl2(g) ---> 2 HCl(g) and you added the Bond Energies involved in corresponding compounds : these are the following ones Bond energies of H-H bond = 436.4 kJ/mol Bond energies of Cl-Cl bond = 242.7 kJ/mol Bond energies of H-Cl bond = 431.9 kJ/mol Now, since ENTHALPY HAS BEEN SPENT TO BREAK Covalent Bonds in Reactant Molecules AND ENTHALPY GIVE OFF by forming of Covalent Bonds for Product Molecules. So, the calculation I make is 1 * 436.4 + 1 * 242.7 - 2 * 431.9 = -247.2 kJ/mol

Thankx gir:)
