What is the slope of the line x = -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I probably should know how to do this but don't remember

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

Is that all the information that was given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

Then it is 0...do you want to know why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, page didn't load all the way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are answer choices ._.

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

Okay...if you graph this line...you will get a straight line right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Undefined 0 -5 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

So, if the line is going straight, and not having any bend, it will be 0

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

makes sense

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

Good.

myininaya (myininaya):

actually if you have x=constant, then the slope is undefined if you have y=constant, then the slope is 0

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The slope can be either indeterminate or undefined, it depends xD

myininaya (myininaya):

slope is rise/run so if a graph has only rise and no run then the slope is undefined because the bottom of that fraction would be 0

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yup

myininaya (myininaya):

@SanjanaP no...

|dw:1407792192143:dw|

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

I know it is rise/run sister.

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

I'm in Calculus.

myininaya (myininaya):

If the line is vertical (which means you will have x=constant), then the slope will be undefined if the line is horizontal (which means you will have y=constant), then the slope will be zero.

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

It is just an easier and quicker way to think about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt the line vertical so it would be undefined?

myininaya (myininaya):

right and not zero

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

yeah..but is it an answer choice? @CrazyTurtle483

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i posted them up farther

myininaya (myininaya):

Doesn't matter if it is an answer choice or not, it is the answer

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

So....its undefined.

myininaya (myininaya):

No guessing involved just using the definition of slope

OpenStudy (sanjanap):

I didn't see the undefined part. Sorry XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so thank you ;p
