In the sentence below, the author is using which types of figurative language to develop a suspenseful mood? Asher’s heart drummed a rapid cadence on the snare drum of his chest as he walked to the door. A. metaphor B. simile C. hyperbole D. none of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@camerondoherty .....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought simile because it used as. I was taught a simile always uses like or as..

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

But tht is not a simile. It says as he walked to the door. A simile is like "as busy as a bee"

OpenStudy (paki):

what if i say "hyperbole"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah good call @camerondoherty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's hyperbole !

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

well a hyperbole is like "my birthday will never come" or "that book costs a trillion dollars". Im not very good with hyperboles tho lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I'm stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It could be a metaphor too right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ManImStumped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a metaphor. It compares his chest to a 'snare drum' without the use of 'like' or 'as'. A hyperbole is an exaggeration, and there is none in this. There might be personification, cause his heart 'drummed' but I'm sure its metaphor.

Thank you :)
