palindromes are things that are the same forward and backwards. A word example: Racecar (RAC E CAR) In genomics, palindromic sequences are generally stop codons or restriction enzyme sites, these are ones that when flipped do the same thing; in E. coli, EcoR1 enzyme: 5': GAATTC 3': CTTAAG When cut, it looks like this: 5'---G AATTC---3' 3'---CTTAA G---5' so if you reed the 3' or 5' line you can see these are the same thing if they are flipped
