Need ideas for a cool synthetic biology project. Any suggestions (must be feasible, not randomness)?
I am going offline, but while I am not here feel free to post ideas. @Abhisar @PRAETORIAN.10 @Gabebro13
I'm confused as to what you are calling feasible; I don't really know of any synthetic biology project ideas that are below graduate level... since it is, by definition, a rather cumbersome thing to do
I suppose the easiest thing I can think of is to make some synthetic dna
or cleaving two different species dna/rna together with PCR
I can do college level (I am working on a college level project right now). www.realvegancheese.org https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/real-vegan-cheese/x/8018909 I am on the team in the project above. @agreene

Sorry dude, synthetic biology isn't really my thing. Maybe something else though I guess. Let me know how it goes. @BioEpic
@PRAETORIAN.10 I already saw the link you posted:)
You can use paper or some cardboard to show protein synthesis.
you can try making a burrito tree. i will totally fund that experiment
The project needs to be college level (this is not a school project, it is one I am competing with internationally with college undergrads and grads and phds.
Well, it seems like you are already doing synthetic biology since you are altering the genes of whatever microbes you guys are using... Creating new food sources are of interest, as are: making:new biofuel sources(alterations of plastids); preferential targeting in cellular systems (ie: modified T-Cells for leukaemia treatment); virions, etc. for targeting contagions These are the things that pop readily to mind. Most of my research is in computational molecular biology. So, at most, I assist synthetic biology teams by doing modelling of things they are trying to affect. My most recent work: http://pubs.rsc.org/en/Content/ArticleLanding/2014/MB/C4MB00239C#!divAbstract
Of course, making microbes make medicine is also something that is rapidly growing but still in an infant stage
This is a couple years old--but if it interests you, you could probably search the journals or contact the lead scientist for information for extending the work. https://www.ted.com/talks/craig_venter_unveils_synthetic_life
I'm also about to start working on this project, which depending on your definition is synth bio http://www.mercyrnd.com/products/available/?category=drug-delivery
i just read a paper on gene synthesis and replication :D
@agreene you work at mercy?
I'm going to be working with them through my university
wow. What university?
Drury University it's in Springfield, MO as is Mercy R&D
if you want a truly synthetic biology (life), check Craig Venter's work
Me and my friends/collaborators worship Craig Venter. We were joking that we were going to order coffee mugs with a photo that looks suspiciously like Craig Venter's face on the side. @nincompoop
I have been a follower for 4-years now.
Nice to meet a fellow follower :)
